Solar Global has optimized the control of photovoltaic power plants and battery storage systems with the Unipi Patron controller, allowing more efficient use of renewable resources.

Challenge
The customer was looking for suitable hardware to implement a custom software solution for controlling photovoltaic power plants (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As part of that solution, the customer needed to communicate with source data from the Czech Electricity Transmission System (CEPS) using Python to ensure optimal utilization of the battery storage system.
The priority was to have an open system for integrating customers' own software and equipment cybersecurity. The goal was to solve the overall monitoring and control of PV plant, BESS, and hydrogen. The customer required optimization, assurance of financial benefit and reliability.
Solution
Solar Global Storage, a company focused on energy accumulation and battery storage systems, has chosen Unipi Patron L527, that meets all the requirements. In synergy with the Algora software, it is primarily used for PV plant and BESS dispatching. The Unipi controller also manages the battery storage, allowing the customer to optimize the business variance for the highest economic profit, thanks to the software in the PLC.
In addition, the customer's SW includes an upgrade and the possibility of its incorporation in the aggregation block. The battery storage in the aggregation block can be used for power balance support services for CEPS.
With Unipi Patron and the Algora software, the client controls several dozen MWh of battery storage throughout the Czech Republic.

Next steps
In the future, Solar Global plans to cover the entire portfolio of battery storage and PV plants and to create an energy management system for the Napajedla facility (hydrogen, wind, PV plant, BESS).
