17/12/19 Raspberry Pi 4, the fourth generation of the popular single-board computer, is now fully compatible with Unipi 1.1 and Unipi 1.1 Lite.
There is no need to introduce the Raspberry Pi - this credit-sized minicomputer became a worldwide phenomenon thanks to its combination of small size and performance comparable to standard personal computers. Its third generation is extensively used in Unipi products, as the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B serves as computing module of Unipi 1.1, Unipi 1.1 Lite and all Unipi Neuron controllers.
However, one does not simply slow the progress, and in summer 2019 the Raspberry Pi 4, a fourth generation of the computer, was released. Compared to its predecessors the Pi 4 offers a host of major improvements including significantly higher computing power, 1Gbit Ethernet, USB 3.0, the option of selecting between multiple RAM capacities, and many more.
Raspberry Pi 4 in Unipi products
Raspberry Pi 4 naturally found its way to Unipi as well. That said, we can now officially state that Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is now fully compatible with Unipi 1.1 and Unipi 1.1 Lite.
On the Unipi's e-shop, you can now purchase the Pi 4 both individually and as a part of Unipi 1.1 and Unipi Lite complete sets. In both variants, you can choose from 1 GB RAM and 4 GB RAM variants. The 2GB RAM variant is then available as part of the OEM programme (more info about OEM solutions can be found on this link).
Our developers are also hard at work to implement the Raspberry Pi 4 into Unipi Neuron product line. Availability of Neurons with the new Raspberry Pi will be announced on our webpage and via our newsletter, to which you can subscribe by using this link.
What is Unipi 1.1?
Unipi 1.1 is an extension board for Raspberry Pi computer, which extends the computer by a set of inputs/outputs and allows it to function as a programmable logic controller. Unipi 1.1 thus represents a cheap, simple, yet powerful solution for automation tasks and smart homes. The Unipi 1.1 Lite then represents a smaller and simpler variant of the Unipi 1.1 suitable for the smallest projects.
