Report from the October training course
In days of 7th - 8th October 2019 a two-day Mervis training course took place; another course from the series of basic and advanced courses led by Unipi.technology developers, during which the attendees have the chance to get accustomed to the Mervis, an officially supported software platform for programming the Unipi.technology programmable logic controllers.
As with the previous course in May, the October course was also divided into the basic course and the advanced course. The basic course was focused on the basic work with the Mervis IDE programming environment and the attendees have learned to connect the software with Unipi PLCs, create a control logic through the use of the FBD (function block diagram) method and to visualize the logic via graphical user interface made in the HMI editor.
The advanced course then focused on several more complex topics. The attendees learned the advantages and disadvantages of multiple possible network topologies and were accustomed to the SSCP communication protocol and advanced functionality of the HMI editor. Attendees then learned to create a configurable advanced energy meter project that reads data from virtual energy meters using the SSCP protocol and includes calculation of current energy consumption, monthly energy consumption and cost per month including a simple cost prediction and alarm warning if the energy budget is exceeded.
During both courses, every attendee worked with a training kit consisting of an Unipi Axon S105 controllers, a single Unipi Extension xS50 module, a single LED, a potentiometer, a single resistance thermometer and a 1-Wire thermometer. After each course the Unipi developers were available for questions and consulting, each attendee also received a paper certificate.

Note: Both courses are in Czech language only
Monday, 19th November: Basic Mervis course
A course for newcomers or users with basic knowledge of Mervis. During the lecture, attendees learn to connect the hardware with Mervis, accustom themselves with the Mervis IDE and learn the basics of FBD programming. Basic HMI user interface creation course is also included, along with basic Mervis DB course.
Tuesday, 20th November: Advanced Mervis course
The advanced course is intended for experienced Mervis users who wish to explore advanced features of Mervis. The course consists of four main topics:
- working with the SSCP protocol, communication between Mervis IDE and PLC, communication between two separate PLCs
- advanced HMI interface course (advanced editing techniques, creation of customized designs etc.)
- function block libraries (working with default libraries, creation and management of custom libraries etc.
After the main course members of the Unipi.technology team will be available for personal consultations. Each attendee will also receive a printed certificate.
