9/7/20 Introducing brand-new indoor air quality sensors providing you with an option to measure up to six parameters in a single compact package. Aside from that the sensors also feature broad connectivity, compact size, simple installation and web user interface for displaying measured values.

Do you know what you breathe?

In recent years many cases of health issues caused by low indoor air quality have been detected. Problems like headaches, breathing troubles, allergies, problems with maintaining focus and other ailments have their source primarily in high concentrations of CO2 or volatile organic compounds, high/low air humidity or overheating/underheating. Also present may be window condensation resulting in mildew.

The first step in solving these issues is the ability to monitor indoor air quality in the long term to obtain relevant data as a basis for required modifications (installation of uprated air conditioning, improvements of heating control, installation of more suitable windows etc.). The brand-new Unipi indoor air quality sensors were designed exactly for such a task.

Advantages of Unipi indoor air quality sensors

  • measuring of up to six parameters (temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, VOC concentration, barometric pressure and ambient light intensity),
  • compact size, easy on-wall installation,
  • simple connection, start-up and configuration via Wi-Fi,
  • broad connectivity (RS485, Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN),
  • support of various communication protocols (Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, MQTT, REST),
  • web interface for measured data visualisation and device configuration,
  • data are relayed to monitoring and regulation systems,
  • a multi-coloured LED for indication of air quality and device status.

Basic features

The sensor is placed in a mounted in a compact design box (IP20 protection) designed for an on-wall installation and easy access to the sensor itself. The sensor features a terminal block for connection of power supply and RS485 serial bus, also available is a MicroUSB power supply connector. A multi-coloured LED serves for an indication of CO2 concentration and device status.

The primary communication interface of the indoor quality sensors is a wireless Wi-Fi connection serving for easy initial configuration and communication via Modbus TCP, MQTT or REST API. Aside from Wi-Fi, the sensors can also communicate via the RS485 interface using Modbus RTU protocol. Selected variants also feature support of LoRaWAN wireless technology combining long signal range (up to several kilometres) with extremely low power consumption and the ability to create private networks.

Note: Unipi technology currently does not offer LoRaWAN gateways.

Measured values can be easily displayed using a web user interface, which can be also used for device management. A particularly useful feature is the option to store all measured values for up to 7 days. Values can be displayed directly in the interface or exported as an Excel file (CSV).

Software support

The indoor air quality sensors are supported by the Mervis system - the official software solution for Unipi programmable logic controllers. As sensors function as Modbus devices, all you need to do to connect them into Mervis IDE development environment is to add a corresponding communication channel and detect the sensor on it. More information about Mervis is available on this link

Aside from Mervis, the sensors can be connected to other software solutions (ie. third-party software such as Node-RED or custom solutions) using any of the available communication protocols (see above).

Where you can utilize indoor air quality sensors?

Due to their features, the sensors are applicable in a variety of uses. Aside from air quality monitoring in households, commercial objects or school buildings the sensors can be also useful in monitoring and regulation projects.
